Hello Diva’s!

Summer is on the way and so is beach wear, shorts and summer dresses. Most of us dread the sights of our swimsuits in the spring as we may have packed on a few pounds over the winter. I know it’s hard to fit a rigorous workout schedule into an already very full day. I found this article on MSN great!! Eat healthy and lose weight without a 2 hour workout! WOO HOO!! I love it.

The New Look-Great Diet

By Keri Glassman, RD, Women’s Health

In her just-released book, The O2 Diet, weight-loss expert and WH contributor Keri Glassman, R.D., reveals the powerful benefits of eating foods that are packed with antioxidants.

The New Look-Great Diet

When it comes to eating healthy and losing weight, we’ve been focusing on the wrong set of numbers, says nutritionist Keri Glassman, R.D. This month, Glassman launches a revolutionary way of eating in her new book, The O2 Diet, which is based on the foods that have the highest antioxidant activity levels. This plan will make it super-simple for you to shed pounds, look fabulous, boost your energy, and amp up your brainpower.

Glassman’s plan is based on the ORAC scale—a scientific value that represents the antioxidant levels of foods. (ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity.) Using this scale, she has devised a diet that gets you 30,000 ORAC points a day—10 times the current recommended level of 3,000. It’s those mega ORAC points that scoop up free radicals, the damaging rogue elements in our bodies that contribute to everything from wrinkles and brain fog to cancer and heart disease.

And you can say good-bye to calorie counting: By focusing on high ORAC scores, you’ll chow down on foods that are healthy and have the right proportion of nutrients, so the extra weight will come off more easily.

Discover the 7 dieting myths that slow your weight loss.

In her book, Glassman explains how certain high-ORAC fruits and vegetables have specific powers. Load up on these antioxidant superstars every time you hit the grocery store—they’ll help you bring out your healthy best in these five ways.

1. LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT TRYING
On the O2 Diet, estimate that you’ll lose about two to three pounds a week. But instead of worrying about the pounds, focus on ORAC points—and the pounds will melt away. These are just three of the O2 Diet’s weight-loss wonders:

ARTICHOKES: At only 60 calories each, they’re a calorie bargain. Artichokes are also super-high on the ORAC scale—7,900 points— and they contain phytochemicals that may lower cholesterol levels.

LEMON WATER: Lemon peel contains pectin, a soluble fiber that has been shown to help with weight loss. Add an ounce of lemon juice and some zest to each of your eight daily glasses of water (which will help you feel fuller), and you’ll add 3,200 ORAC points.

RED GRAPEFRUIT: One study found that people who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 pounds over 12 weeks, while those who drank grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds. The red variety has more of the cancer-protecting antioxidant lycopene. Half a grape-fruit has 1,900 ORAC points.

Don’t fall for these 5 diet traps.

2. MAKE YOUR SKIN GLOW
While no food can turn back the clock, some can perk up your looks and slow the aging process.

FIGS: Eating a handful of dried figs increases the amount of antioxidants in your blood for four hours, much longer than many other foods. Two small figs have about 2,700 ORAC points.

RED BELL PEPPERS: The unique combination of large amounts of vitamins A, C, and E make red bell peppers a skin superfood. Half a cup adds 600 ORAC points.

WATERMELON: This lycopene-rich fruit provides 33 percent more protection against sunburn than other fruits. (You still have to wear sunscreen though!) One cup of this diced melon has 200 ORAC points.

Like vegetables and still want to eat heathier? Try these other veggies.

3. BOLSTER YOUR BODY
Certain antioxidants have been shown to fight cancer, boost immunity, and keep bones strong.

BEANS: They’re loaded with phytochemicals (including saponins, protease inhibitors, and phytic acid), which may protect cells from damage that potentially causes cancer, reports the American Institute for Cancer Research. Half a cup has 7,800 ORAC points.

PRUNES: These wrinkly little dried fruits are rich in vitamin K and a top source of the mineral boron, and we need both for strong bones. A three-prune serving gives you 1,900 ORAC points.

4. WARD OFF HEART DISEASE
Young women tend to be oblivious to heart disease, but that attitude itself is a big risk. How you eat today helps predict how healthy your heart will be 30 years from now.

CHERRIES: Researchers at the University of Michigan have found that the anthocyanins in dark cherries reduce belly fat and lower cholesterol and blood sugar; one serving packs 3,500 ORAC points.

DARK CHOCOLATE: Rich in flavonoids, chocolate is believed to promote heart health by reducing platelet activation, affecting the relaxation capabilities of blood vessels. One ounce of dark chocolate has 5,900 ORAC points.

Try these 125 best foods for women.

5. BOOST YOUR BRAINPOWER
The neural pathways in our brains are growing and improving all the time. Eat the right foods and you’ll be able to concentrate better, remember more, and feel calmer.

BLUEBERRIES: They may improve memory, cognition, and balance. Researchers believe that blueberries (9,700 ORAC points per one-cup serving) reduce inflammation and can help us overcome the normal effects of brain aging.

CINNAMON: Researchers believe that cinnamon may inhibit certain Alzheimer’s disease cells. One teaspoon of cinnamon adds 7,000 ORAC points.

PLUMS: These juicy treats decrease anxiety-related behaviors, and researchers think they may protect against depression. One plum adds 4,100 ORAC points to a meal.

Hello Divas,

I am already thinking about summer and it’s only January!! I like to know what kind of swimsuit looks the best on me so I assume that other women feel the same. It pains me when I see women wearing the WRONG swimsuit. I feel this article from MSN is very helpful with solving the bathing suit dilemmas that we all face LOL

How to pick a swimsuit that shows off your assets

By Jackie Burns
Before you start searching for a sexy swimsuit to sport on your winter getaway, we’re going to let you in on a little secret. Depending on your particular body shape, there are certain styles and patterns that will go a long way to making the most of your particular assets.
Toronto stylist Joan Petraglia from Styled Closets reveals some of the most flattering bathing suit styles for the various female body shapes so that you will exude confidence as you stroll down that white sandy beach.

A frame (or pear) – Hips are wider than the bust

For those with a pear shape, Petraglia says your goal is to emphasize the upper part of your body and enlarge the shoulder width. She says a one-piece boat neck bathing suit will give the illusion of wider shoulders, as will a racer back, halter top or tube top bikini. Try incorporating some extra padding on your bikini top, or choosing a push-up bra style top which will also help to focus more attention on your upper half, she says. Petraglia also recommends sticking to dark colours on your lower half and says higher-cut bottoms are far more flattering for your shape. “The top should be more embellished and the bottom more subdued,” she says.

V frame – Bigger on top and really small on the bottom

This particular body shape is the opposite of A so you’ll want to emphasize the lower part of your body while taking attention away from the upper half, Petraglia says. She recommends looking for styles that incorporate horizontal lines at the hip and high-cut neck lines. “A solid top with a printed bottom is good,” she says, adding you should avoid plunging neck lines or tiny bikini bottoms. One-piece bathing suits which support the bust and offer a square neck line that goes straight across is preferable, as are tankinis.

X frame – Hourglass figure

The most sought-after figure in North America can pretty much get away with any style or colour when it comes to swimwear, says Petraglia. She says if you want to show off your hourglass figure to the fullest, it’s best to opt for styles that will accentuate your small waist. If you happen to have a long torso, she recommends choosing suits that have the sides cut out. On the flip side, those with short torsos should stick to high-cut bottoms, plunging necklines and vertical stripes.

H frame – Don’t have much of a waist

“De-emphasize the waist and emphasize the upper and lower torso,” suggests Petraglia. In order to produce curves where you’re actually as straight as a board, she recommends incorporating details at the top in the form of a lower neckline, an interesting pattern, ruffles or ties. Same goes with the bottom half; ruffles, bows, patterns, buckles or ties at the side will all create a distraction from the boyish frame.

O frame – waist is thicker than the bust

“We’re trying to take the focus away from the mid-section,” she Petraglia. In order to de-emphasize the waist, she suggests horizontal lines at the top and the bottom as well as solid colours. One-pieces, tankinis, skirted bikinis or pieces with draping around the hips and waist are also good options for this body type. A belted one piece that gives the illusion of a waist or a suit that has a vertical pattern in the middle are also sure bets, she says.

Hello Divas,

I found this article about Kate Gosselin interesting.

I absolutely LOVE her new hair style. It takes years off of her. Fresh, flirty, flashy not trashy……love it

alg_people_cover_kate-gosselin

It’s a new year and a brand new look for TV’s most talked about mom, Kate Gosselin.
The reality TV show star, who has finally ended her messy divorce with husband Jon, spent hours on her new ‘do with celebrity hairstylist, Ted Gibson, reports People.com.
Gibson, who has worked on high-profile celebs like Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway, spent about 20 hours last week adding hundreds of extensions to Gosselin’s short, blonde hair.
The look, they both agree, was well worth the effort.
“It’s good to have hair again,” the mom of eight said. “I know this will be more upkeep than my old look, but I’m ready for it. I’m just grateful I don’t have to go through the awkward growing-out process of short hair. I get criticized for everything I do enough as it is!”
Gibson also had nothing but kind words to offer the newly single 34-year-old mother.
“Bonding extensions to those little hairs really took time. But in all those hours, she didn’t complain once,” said Gibson. “She was so open to whatever I suggested, and willing to try just about anything.”
Though Gosselin did have some initial misgivings about shorter bangs, Gibson said he eventually talked her in to getting rid of the jaw-length blonde chunk of hair that was the trademark of her old style.
“I find many women have that one thing they’re afraid to let go of, that one ‘security blanket’ part of their look, whether it’s a fear of going shorter or darker or something,” he explained. “But once they finally let go and embrace the change, they always love it.”
And Gibson isn’t the only one loving Gosselin’s new look.
Surprisingly, Hailey Glassman, who recently parted ways with Gosselin’s bad boy ex-husband, is now trying to play nice with the reality star mom.
“I like it! It’s a little shocking due to how short it was before,” Glassman told Entertainment Tonight. “I think a new look is a new start and happier times. She’s like fine wine. Better over time. Did I mention how great her body looks? I wonder who her surgeon is?”
The 22-year-old, whose father performed Gosselin’s tummy tuck after she had given birth to her sextuplets, also had a few choice words for her ex.
“Jon’s poison. He plays the victim when he is the villain,” Glassman said. “This is also a way for [Kate] to throw it in his face. Jon always gave her s— about having short hair. Props to Kate. She can now be a MILF!”
